Tuesday was Mardi Gras in the great state of Louisiana and Hoss loves to party, so he couldn’t pass up a visit on his way home from the Super Bowl. Plus, he’d heard that their could be pancakes there… and Hoss looooooooooves pancakes. After not finding a bowl in Arizona, spirits were high on the hopes of pancake lined streets. This could be as close to Basset Heaven as it gets!
As he waddled through the streets he was surprised to see the outpouring of support for his campaign. There were banners all over town, hanging on railings, windows and doors. People were wearing bootleg vote basset t-shirts and caps and screaming VOTE BASSET to all within ear shot. When he was recognized, he was mobbed by people who wanted to wish him well and shake his paw.. unfortunately, none of them had any pancakes.
Hoss had his very own red, white and blue float in the mardi gras parade complete with his own string band playing, “I wish I was in Dixie” and “Proud to be an American!” Instead of beads, Hoss tossed his favorite biscuits to the screaming crowds of people. He was a little perplexed when some girls lifted their shirts, but he figured even though they were a little strange, they deserved biscuits too.
After the festivities wound down and the biscuits were all gone, Hoss toured the parts of the city that are still devastated by Hurricane Katrina. He was sad to see how many neighborhoods are still in ruins and pledged to bring more resources to this once great city to help it rebuild. He proclaimed to a standing room only crowd that not enough attention is given to this tragedy and someone needs to remind America that taking care of our own should be our first priority!
As he hopped on the tour bus to head back towards PA, Hoss turned to me and said, “Wait.. what about the pancakes?” I just laughed and told him I’d make him some as soon as we got home!
